New Way, New Fun, New Fashion - A New Year Resolution

2014 has been an uplifting adventure from running in Ellisburg's 16th Annual Health & Wellness Week to presenting new pieces from my recent design collection at the Thanksgiving Eve Fashion Show. Incredible and appreciative feats have been accomplished this year including an official reboot of PoptropicaStars Fashion Fever on Lifetime Network Poptropica after a lengthy hiatus, breaking a personal record for sketching the most concept designs in one week (24 rough drafts between July 20-26), and extracting unnecessary facial foundation from my cosmetics usage since the winter of last year. However, the most spectacular moment, and the memory I will cherish forever, will be Nathan proposing to me on Santa Catalina Island, the location of our first date. Last year embellished my timeline with personal endeavors, but now it's time to stop being greedy and have 2015 be a year all for the fans and fashionistas! The tides of this blog will flow into a river where you can splash in the waters amiably.

Let's give what seems to be a nondescript 2015 a makeover into a year full of fashion mania, friendly laughter, seasonal cheer, and more accomplishments!

A January greeting from me, two Fashion Fever alumni, Nathan and his younger 17-year old brother Drew in Manhattan, New York City!

Merry Christmas To All!

Merry Christmas! Sorry for the extreme hiatus between this holiday season lately. I feel horrible for inhaling my emotions and leaving them out of the light until now, Usually, I would have an abundance of news to announce on hand at this time of year, but it has all been kept a secret for the past month and I am fully prepared for the GIANT key bulletins to be posted on the board... and review its rewards and repercussions.

December 7 commenced as a typical day. Nathan and I ate breakfast, retrieved our mailbox items in the form of shopping catalogs and newsletters, and tended the herb garden on the patio. The phone rang just as I finished watering the basil. My mom was on the line. She told me to drive to the medical center as soon as possible so I did just as she said. I arrived at the hospital my mom was directed to and was led by a certified doctor into the ER. Scary sensations. After being consulted with the doctor taking care of my mother, I learned my 50-year-young mom had a heart attack while she was waking up that morning. I didn't know what to say, but a sea of tears began to flood my eyelids automatically. Since then, I have been assisting my mom recording weekly portable defibrillator tests. It is a very unexpected occurrence, but I'm staying strong throughout this taxing time, and hold an even more powerful heart for my mother's sake.

Sliding along to an upbeat story - December 17: Right before I left the house, my cell phone rang just as I stepped foot onto the front porch welcome mat. Eliza Darielle, the first-season judge of PoptropicaStars Fashion Fever, was on the other end inviting me to attend the Pasadena Bowl X-Mas Lighting Party. I agreed to commute there right after a morning of signing New Year's Eve fashion show paperwork. Once I arrived at the Pasadena Bowl, Eliza was standing next to a gigantic SUV carrying at least twenty pounds worth of wrapped presents. I quickly learned that those gifts were embellished with neatly tied bows to give to the foster home children in downtown Los Angeles. Thus, Eliza and I rode in the vehicle to the shelter. We spent the entire afternoon distributing Barbie dolls, monster trucks, stuffed animals, edible candy jewelry, and magical Disney toys to these energetic kiddos. Although the children there may have an unorthodox Christmas holiday, nothing can overtake the joy of seeing elementary school students and toddlers leap in excitement.

Finally on December 20, 2014, Nathan and I went on a winter boat excursion to revisit Santa Catalina Island, the destination of our first date. The locale was decorated with festive lights, rows of faux Christmas pines, and candy cane statuettes dangling from two ropes. Nathan and I went on a stroll along the marina. He explicitly told me, "The day I met you is and always will be the best day of my entire life having gone through some of the toughest situations in, like, the past several years." After I said something similar, but very cheesy, we sat down on the dock to talk about memories. Within five minutes of a full, random conversation, Nathan does something unspeakable to me... he immediately gets on one knee and says the four words I wish my dream guy would say to me in my teen years, "Will you marry me?"

I immediately shout "Yes"... and I do a sport-winning victory dance. Best moment of 2014.

Our engagement rings :)
I promise there will be so much more news to come in 2015 than this year.

Get Ready For A Holiday Fashion Show

Fashionistas of Poptropica, as you spend time at dinner pondering how tomorrow's feast and praises will turn out, enjoy an hour and thirty minutes tonight dedicated to viewing Poptropica's 8th Annual Thanksgiving Eve Fashion Show live! The venue, a 70-year old hall in Historic Alvaville near Adeline Pines, Mainland Poptropica, will be the center of attention as models of average-community Poptropicans show off the featured designers' creations. Designers presented at the show as I know of will include Deedee Everglen (owner of Chic Boutique Premium Outlet), Phillip Garrett (notable fashion designer), Natasha Remise (model, accountant, & notable fashion designer), and me. I am incredibly excited for tonight!

Check your local Poptropica TV schedules for the broadcasting of the fashion show!

Relax... It's Only Halloween

All month long, I was very busy attending conferences around Poptropica in regards to the fresh 2015 PoptropicaStars - Relax line that will be revealed when the opening hours of each Madeline's Closet boutique premieres for the new year. More information will be brought out before then.

In addition to the upcoming styles, Nathan and I have been redecorating the house, RSVP'ing 20 guests, planning the menu, and shelling out pumpkin seeds to make a jack-o-lantern for a trick-proof Halloween party. Knowing how I handle stress, a million ounces of work can not be finished by frantically rushing. The most important thing I do while preparing for a festivity like this is relax, soothe my senses, and envision a therapeutic 5-minute-massage.
This pumpkin took three hours to carve, but the face is timeless. :) Haha.
You can't have a party without the essential "part"; that is what we call food. The menu is being finalized as I am obligated to make half of the dishes and a caterer will deliver the remaining savors two hours before showtime. Here is the lovely menu.

MY DISHES:
  • Lots of Toasted Pumpkin Seeds (with and without dashes of paprika)
  • Salt And Olive Oil Popcorn
  • Roasted Acorn Squash stuffed with Rice, Bell Peppers, Kale, And Mozzarella
  • Peanut and Milk Chocolate M&M's, Candy Corn, and Peanut Butter Cups to grab anytime
  • Orange-Lime Punch
CATERER'S DISHES:
  • Bacon-Wrapped Pepper Poppers
  • B.L.T. (Beef, Lettuce, Tomatillo) Sliders
  • Chocolate and Vanilla Ice Cream
  • Strawberry Pie
  • Lemonade and Licorice Margaritas
I simply can't wait for October 31st!

HZ-15's 2015 Collection Photoshoot

Hip-hop culture in Poptropica is not nearly as recognized as pop culture or modern smoove (tranquility), but still holds a huge part in territorial history. From TyAiShA's astounding R&B debut that opened mouths across the nation with her single "Marco Polo", to the commercial use of hip-hop choreography, and to the trend of baggy pants and baseball caps, Poptropica has covered each subject - music, dance, and fashion - of the established art. Now what does this have to do with a photoshoot? HZ-15!

HZ-15 Urban Apparel is a Poptropican clothing brand infusing the art of hip-hop with the motley fashion appetite of the younger Poptropican generation. Although my modeling niche is "vibrant haute couture", I was very excited to receive a call from the company's marketing director to take at least twenty pictures of me in a purple sweater, tennis shoes with blue accents, and big girl pants.

I flew from Los Angeles to San Miranda, Mainland Poptropica early in the morning. Once the plane finally landed in Poptropica, I took a taxi over the Maricruz Sulma Bridge to the Port Domingo Steel District where the photoshoot would occur. David Erck and Paola Cucomo, models I have worked with in a 7-Up photoshoot, welcomed me with open arms. We had time to waste before our noon appointment so we walked around the district "window shopping" welded material and discussed our lives like two elder-aged moms reminiscing grapevine stories. At 12:00 sharp, we speed walked back to the photoshoot location, fitted into samples of HZ-15's newest articles, and jumped onto the bed of a truck to take our photos. Unbeknownst, we had to look emotionless though we appeared more disappointed and glum (which isn't the actual case) after reviewing the final product. Haha! Afterward, a Subway sandwich lunch was on Paola's behalf.

In case any of you are wondering, HZ-15's 2015 line of new clothing will be distributed to select department stores in Poptropica in the beginning of October.

A Night at the Opera

On Monday, I was sitting at home in San Miranda multitasking until Nathan sneaked up from behind and startled me, dropping my pen in the process of taking notes for a fashion show analysis. I let out a laugh thinking he played a practical joke on me again. (No harm done!) As I went to pick up the pen, he handed me a white envelope with thick rectangular figures enclosed. I quickly figured out what the letter was for and tore open the seal to find three tickets to the premiere of the new contemporary opera, Santa Barbara. I pre-ordered a trio of tickets to see the performance with Nathan, but then I thought, "What's a little more fun if I invite a friend who has distinct taste in opera?" That is when I called Angie Camer, the magnificent Poptropican journalist, to see the show with us.

Yesterday, Nathan and I picked up Angie from the airport and booked an early dinner at Sandtrekker, a Moroccan restaurant Angie wanted a taste at while she was visiting. There, we shared an authentic antipasti platter embellished with fresh olives, khoubz (Moroccan flatbread), Edam cheese, cherry tomatoes, cannellini beans, and a lovely olive tampenade spread smack in the center of the plate.

Afterward, we were at the Brynne Opera House awaiting the wonderful performance of a lifetime. Nathan, Angie, and I sat together near the front where we could see the stage perfectly while at a ear-satisfying distance from the San Miranda Concerto tuning their instruments. As the libretto began, the lights dimmed and spotlights were all directed towards the strong voices. The show is about Champ, a world-renown surfer, meeting an ordinary hairdresser named Florentine. I don't want to give too much away as that will ruin the story line for people who wish to see it, but I will say this: "Santa Barbara is worth sitting for four hours."

PoptropicaStars Fashion Fever S2 Interviews: Nariah's Elimination

Nariah Enjares, the 20-year old fashion photographer from Albany, New York, was eliminated with a sole vote due to her strength in winning fashion immunity. Monica Johnson felt the need to eliminate Enjares before she becomes a truer threat in the finale.

After packing and checking out with her head held high, she was relocated to the elimination villa in Malibu, California where the other five eliminated designers were lodging. At exactly 9:00 A.M., Nariah entered through the door and Iris, Jennifer, Kendra, Danielle, and Tiffany greeted her with open arms. Nariah gave them a recap explaining who are strong designers in the finale and the Meso-American assignment. They then all sat on the beige sofa to watch what actually went down at the designing lair when Nariah was previously competing. Danielle questioned whether she had already known if Heidi and Monica were in an alliance. Kendra proceeded to call Danielle out for not paying attention to the episode. Afterward, Iris gifted Nariah a friendship necklace to keep before they all leave for their homes. During dinner, Tiffany made a toast to their final night at the elimination villa before traveling elsewhere to see the final two competitors show off their skills.

Nariah received a surprise phone call from her mother, Ecirava Enjares, to tell her how proud she is for Nariah to represent herself well in the competition and the beautiful designs modeled on the runway. Her mother also said Grandfather Khan was recuperating well at the hospital and had nothing severe to worry about.

This morning, Nariah had prepared for her interview with Nick Burley, the host of Good Morning Poptropica. The interview started at 7:15 and Nick asked these questions during the interview.

NICK: Good morning, Nariah! I'd like to start off the cup of joe chat saying, that's an extravagant outfit you have on!
NARIAH: Thanks, Nick. I've actually never had anyone compliment this outfit before!

NICK: What's it made of?
NARIAH: Like, regular polyester fabrics. Nothing too fancy. It's really comfortable though. I'll send you a sleeveless vest made of it. Haha.
NICK: All right, order me up a size 12, haha! First order of business, how excited are you to see PoptropicaStars Fashion Fever back on Lifetime Network again?
NARIAH: Ah, it's intriguing! I get to live the Fashion Fever experience once more. After finding out it was going on an extended hiatus, I thought Lifetime would never show how I got eliminated.
NICK: You were eliminated in the final three because you were not able to win fashion immunity. What would you have done differently in your outfit to guarantee a three-time winning streak?
NARIAH: I'd definitely would have put more time into the Aztec ensemble, but the main thing I regret not integrating onto the outfit is the theme. The judges said my outfit was leaning towards Caribbean influence more than the Central American. If I had traveled back in time, started over from scratch, lessened the Rastafarian patterns... then I would have probably won that assignment to keep me safe.
NICK: In the beginning of the competition, it seems like Iris immediately associated with you. Why do you think that is?
NARIAH: This wasn't shown on TV, but during the first night after the critic review recitation and before Jennifer blew up, Iris and I talked about how both of us have visited the Smithsonian in Washington D.C., The Metropolitan Museum of Arts in NYC, and she also has been a fashion photographer in the past before committing herself as a housewife in Minnesota. We clicked afterward and the mysteries and tricks of editing came into play.

NICK: During the fourth fashion assignment, the Bollywood outfit - I know that grin - how excited were you knowing you could have had a distinct advantage from everyone else considering you grew up in Mumbai, the Ellisburg or Los Angeles of India, as a child?
NARIAH: Super! Super super excited - haha! My mum's aunt is actually a former Bollywood performer so I had that soul and hop in me. I knew going in that if I didn't win that assignment, my mum would go bananas. We laughed my confessional out together though. Haha.
NICK: In the same episode, the mime was "welcomed" in the designing lair. How did you respond to that?
NARIAH: It was hi-larious! Actually, the mime never got to annoy me personally, but I do know I saw Iris getting pummeled with his antics for a few seconds before going to change into my outfit. On TV, Heidi made the episode a million times R.O.F.L. She literally ran away from her station while the mime kept following her. Oh my gosh, that's just payback at its finest for being so uptight beforehand.
NICK: Now, off topic. Our crew has heard that the food PoptropicaStars Fashion Fever serves is beyond delicious, did you have any favorite dishes that they served?
NARIAH: Yes, that is completely true. One night there were lobster and rice wrapped in kale, baked potato with cheese and prosciutto, Long Island iced tea, and best of all, chocolate lava cake with a gooey cherry-grape filling. It was delectable and I wish there were recipes on the web so I could search them and recreate them at home.

NICK: We're running out of time, but one last question, who do you want to see win Fashion Fever?
NARIAH: I'm rooting for Monica to win this season despite the fact that she voted me out. I'd like to see an underdog win just like how Alis won her season.

NICK: It was a great interview, Nariah, I wish you the best of luck and have a nice day.
NARIAH: Thank you, Nick. It was great to be here and be interviewed.

Lori Trainor, A Wonderful Friend in the Heart

First off, I'd like to give a short, commemorative memoir to my cheeky, witty, and philanthropic friend, Lori Trainor. She has been an inspiration throughout my life since meeting her back when Poptropican fashion was beginning to boom. Trainor has reached out to numerous willing designers to become an icon in the fashion industry including Madelyn Glorious (founder of Madelyn's Closet). Her smile has brought a new light to many organizations ranging from clothing donations towards local orphanages to preparing debut fashion models onto runways.

Contrary to her businesswoman self, Trainor was an intellectual friend I looked up to ever since I was a child living in an apartment on Early Poptropica. How would in a million years I could have imagined meeting Lori Trainor in person? She always listened to advice, morals, and stories whoever she conversed with. Trainor did not mind giving critique, but she always held her respect and gratitude whenever something feels it needed a fix.

Although her physical contact is lost, the soul of her expressions within my memory will always be found. I will dearly miss Lori Trainor, a one-of-a-kind, upbeat, and caring friend. She is an example for Poptropicans everywhere no matter what race, eyes, hair color, or gender they are.

Blog's Future & Surfside Interview

Our wondrous blog correspondent, Janine De Michelis, has recorded every step of Nathan, Penelope, the incredible fashionistas of Fashion Fever, and I's path in the fashion industry for five fantastic years. De Michelis's incredible efforts to post every event of our Poptropican lives into a blog montage has touched many fashion fanatics', including mine's, heart. It is a very disappointing loss to hear about De Michelis's resignation, but she stated with an open heart, "the opportunity of a lifetime to become an editor in the Los Angeles Sun came up and I just had to go for my childhood dream". As she ventures onto another interface, we will truly miss her as a blogger, a mom, and mostly as a genuine person I have known since 2007. For now, I will bring you the latest news, facts, and truths.

The spring season has closed shop for the year, thus summer has begun and humidifying the temperate Los Angeles County weather; what better way to celebrate the birth of a new season by traveling to the beach. Before we started the mini road trip, Nathan Devilman and I changed into bathing suits. I wore a peach & pink two-piece I designed myself, and Nathan donned a pair of swimming trunks he bought at Suburbian. We packed the sandwiches, the camera, a sense of direction, and before time knew it, we were off to Malibu!

Once we arrived at the beach, the adventure was in our hands. First, we took some photos near iconic scenes including the stretch of valley facing north, the sky blue lifeguard tower, and the foamy sea washing up against our toes. The panoramic view of the area looked absolutely stunning!

We went on a quick stroll along the shoreline before eating our tomato, lettuce, & feta sandwich on our picnic blanket. When the bright afternoon sun made our feet feel like rods on top of hot metal, we dove into the Pacific Ocean to cool off. After our swim, a gracious Fashion Fever fan named Barbara wanted to interview us. We glad gave out our honest answers. Sadly, she didn't want to be in our picture, but she is an amazing person.

INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPT:
Barbara: So PoptropicaStars, when is the new summer collection coming out in stores?
I: My summer collection for this year will be delivered to Kohl's and Madeline's Closet stores throughout Poptropica next week, to be estimated.
Barbara: That sounds great, also, what would you recommend for me to wear to my daughter's wedding ceremony?
I: Considering it's the start of summer, I'd suggest a modest, vibrant top paired with a knee-length skirt. If the ceremony is outdoors, put on some sunscreen and wear something light to not cause too much sweating. If it's indoors, then there's a buffet of choices offered to you.
Barbara: Why, thank you. One last thing, did you design you and Nathan's swimwear because it looks gorgeous.
I: I actually designed this two-piece at home using neoprene to add comfort on [the inside] and the outer designs are made of strong fibers called lycra. I believe Nathan bought his trunks at Suburbian, I think?
Nathan: Yeah, from Suburbian.
Barbara: Alrighty, thanks PoptropicaStars and Nathan. Have a great day!
I & Nathan: See you, have a fantastic day!
Nathan Devilman and I enjoy a late-afternoon stroll at Zuma Beach.

16th Annual Health & Wellness Week In Poptropica

Yoga... check! Fruit and vegetable juice... check! Training for a marathon... most definitely! Six days prior to Easter Sunday, the city of Ellisburg in Mainland Poptropica hosts the annual Health & Wellness Week to promote healthy living within the community. A city known for stepping up against obesity, the Ellisburg mayor, Connie J. Tayelor, even temporarily banned the distributing of soft drinks, greasy fast foods, and candy in select stores within the city limits just for this special occasion. Each year citizens come from all over Poptropica to participate in the organized events throughout "The Green City". In fact, PoptropicaStars is one of many to join the excitement!

On Monday morning, PoptropicaStars flew in from Los Angeles to Ellisburg to participate in the yearly extravaganza. Her day began with a one-hour jog around the indoor track at the Jimmie Rodriguez Conventional Stadium which is open to the public during that week. Later that day, she traveled to Sensei, a premier health spa offering Far Eastern methods of relaxation including Japanese aromatherapy and yoga that originated from India.

On Tuesday, PoptropicaStars prepared for the Reassurance Run 5K Marathon by dressing in a not-so-fashionable outfit and a lipstick-less face. When InStyle Poptropica Magazine questioned her about the choice of apparel, she replied:
"While running a marathon, it is more important to be comfortable sweating... if you feel you can perform better in sweats over shorts, or a long-sleeve tee over a tank top, go with it. Heck, wear leggings and wedges if you feel more comfortable running in them, ha-ha!"
Six hours and thirty-nine minutes after the first tape was charged through, PoptropicaStars finished the lengthy run in 52nd place out of over 400 contenders. She received an honorable blue ribbon and free bottled water in participation of the marathon.

On Wednesday and Thursday, PoptropicaStars spent the remainder of her stay checking out the latest apparel at the Grandeur Galleria in Downtown and sketching last minute concepts for her upcoming summer collection. On Friday, she was spotted at the international terminal in Mira Clicka International Airport, ready to fly back home to Los Angeles with a giant smile on her face in a red & yellow spring dress and Nike shoes that she wore during the marathon.
PoptropicaStars finished her Reassurance Run 5K Marathon around Ellisburg, Mainland Poptropica in 6 hours and 39 minutes.

Not Easy Being Kermit-Green & Where Projects Stand

After several months of spotlight relief for PoptropicaStars, she is jumping back onto the media bandwagon and continuing work on numerous projects currently pulling her schedule. These areas of conquering include airing the remainder of the second season of Fashion Fever (currently on hiatus after low ratings on Lifetime Network Poptropica), a corporate-sophisticated line of clothing coming to Poptropican department stores in summer 2014, and renewing paperwork for several fashion and modeling companies such as NY Modeling Agency, Chalet & Co. Apparel Modeling Agency, and Fashion of Poptropica Partnership. PoptropicaStars states herself, "I will and may very well take necessary measures to be up to date with everyone".

Just yesterday, PoptropicaStars made a grand entrance at Sinclare's Cocktails & Wines Bistro for their St. Patrick's Day gala in San Miranda, Mainland Poptropica. The handcrafted outfit she wore, "Not Easy Being Kermit-Green", received mixed to positive reactions from attendees at the party. Author of best-selling novel, "Raising Cattle", Shirley Costa, praised PoptropicaStars's stitchwork and adored her felt turtle shell hair accessory. On the other hand, Andrew Summerstelle, editor of Pollywood Weekly Magazine, discussed the awkwardness caused from the gown when casually conversing with her.

Sharon Brusck Unveils "Quintessential"

New singles titled "Finding The Best", "No Love", and the currently trending "Quintessential", were picked up by Sharon Brusck, the runner-up of the first season of PoptropicaStars Fashion Fever this afternoon. Music critics have raved Sharon's album to an incredible acclaim. MIX Magazine gave Sharon's newest album a 4.5/5 score, making it the highest rated review of 2014. Reader's Digest - Poptropica praised Sharon's unique style of blending pop from the early 2000's and R&B beats into a masterful tune.
